FINAL IMPRESSIONS |
|
The mood was bittersweet as the Ontario students gathered in the cafeteria for their final morning delegation meeting. As Steve Fessenden, the head of the Ontario delegation, ran through the agenda for the day, it was clear that the students were sad to be preparing for their trip home. Though the students are looking forward to seeing the family and friends back home, it is going to be hard for them to say goodbye tonight.
All of the students agree that their National Fair experience has been truly outstanding. When the Ontario girls were asked to describe their experience, they all exclaimed that the fair was, “Amazing!” Olivia remarked that her trip was, “Amazing! And interesting! And new!”
Brett said, “I liked the war museum the best because I got to learn about the different wars my country has fought in.”
Kindersley described her week as, “I thought it was a lot of fun and it was a memory I’ll remember forever.”
Early tomorrow morning, the Ontario students will depart from the Terry Fox Centre, headed for either the train station or airport. They will say their final goodbyes tonight after the banquet and dance, their last opportunity to share their fair experiences with their new friends. No doubt, the students will exchange e-mails and phone numbers before they leave, continuing their newly formed friendships. Though the 2009 National Historica Heritage Fair will wrap up tonight, the lasting memories, friendships, and knowledge gained will remain with the student indefinitely.
