HELLO ONTARIO - September 2009 -
|
|
|
AN IMPORTANT UPDATE
Over the past few months, many changes have been taking place in the Fairs program. |
|
In July, the Historica Foundation informed Provincial Coordinators from across Canada that it was planning to merge with the Dominion Institute to form a new national organization.
This new organization will continue to maintain a website with much of its existing content and will support the Historica Encounters program for secondary school students.
As one of its cost-cutting moves, sponsorship of the Historica Fairs program will be discontinued.

In August, the Ontario Historica Heritage Fairs Association's Board of Directors met to discuss the impact of this decision and to chart a course for the future of the Fairs program in Ontario. There was unanimous support for the continuation of the Regional Fairs and Provincial Fair during the 2009-2010 school year.
Regional Fair coordinators were contacted to make them aware of the changes and to ratify this decision.
The Ontario organization will be renamed the Ontario Heritage Fairs Association / L'Association des Fêtes du patrimoine de l'Ontario and the Board will continue to provide support to Regional Fair sites across the province. Although there will be no seed funding provided to these sites, the Ontario Coordinators will continue to be available to provide advice and support throughout the year.
If sufficient funding can be secured before the March Break, a Provincial Fair will be held in June 2010 in Ottawa.
At the associations Annual General Meeting in September members will be provided with more details about the plans for this year. In the meantime, if you require further clarification of these changes please contact Carol White or Wayne Hugli for more information. |

You may already have noticed some changes that have been made to our website to reflect the new program in Ontario. Over the next few months you will notice additional changes as we work toward the establishment of a fully bilingual site with the help of OHFA director Denise McCulloch.
Our website URL will continue to be www.ohhfa.ca but you can also access it at www.ohfa.ca or www.ohfa-afpo.ca .
Your Ontario Coordinators can now be reached by e-mail through either of those addresses.

In September, Jill McCaw (Director of School Programs) will end her many years of service with the Heritage Fairs program. Jill has been the backbone of the program and mentor to everyone who has been working with Historica Fairs all across Canada. She will be greatly missed and we want to wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
